The Brazilian government has claimed a 33.6% drop in the deforestation rate of the Amazon in the first half of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022, down to 2649sq.km from 3988 last year, with a 41% drop last month compared to June 2022. More forest fires were recorded this year, however, with 3075 detected in June.
