“We the Portuguese, we the Government, we the community need young Portuguese people in Portugal so that we can all have a better future”, stressed the leader of the executive at the end of the meeting of the Council of Ministers.
Montenegro highlighted the approval of "measures in five main axes", all "aimed at giving more hope to young Portuguese people, hope to be able to settle in Portugal and be able to take advantage of qualifications that, many of them, obtain with great effort and great sacrifice”.
The approved measures, in terms of taxation, housing, and health and well-being, were all aimed at younger people.
The Minister of Youth and Modernisation, Margarida Balseiro Lopes, who was responsible for detailing the measures presented, also stressed that they “have a real impact on the lives of young people”.
This is a “first set of decisions” about the lives of young people, work that the Government will continue, she assured.
The Portuguese Government should bring in young people from EAST EUROPE, and the UKRAINE. Help those young people in EUROPE first, since PORTUGAL is in EUROPE. Also PORTUGAL can bring in young people from the Portuguese Speaking Countries, as a second choice. COMPREHEND !!!

A proposal:
Zero income tax on the first EUR 200k earned lifetime for children who stay into adulthood.
Some will earn that in a few years; for many others it may take many years (at EUR 1k/month, over 16). But by the time people have earned that much they will have grown deeper roots and will want to stay.

Being a Portuguese immigrant living abroad I regret leaving Portugal. I believe I would have enjoyed a better life if I had remained in Portugal.

Stop taxing people that earn little money to death! How is anyone that earns less than 900 Euro paying any taxes whatsoever is insane

As a Portuguese living abroad for the last 8 years, the problem isn't taxation. I wouldn't mind paying those taxes if the salaries were higher. The problem is that Portugal is one of the lowest paying countries in the EU and it is so much more inviting to move abroad to easily get a better salary and more disposable income. I currently earn 3 times in Ireland what I would get in Portugal. It would be a bad financial decision for me to return to Portugal. If Portugal manages to fix that, then others like me will reconsider.

I love living in Portugal. Much to love but the country needs a complete overhaul. Court system is screwing the country. Nothing gets done in adequate time. Current tax system stifles rotation of capital. Slows consumers spending, in turn causing lower wage growth. The whole supply demand balance is off. Why would any young person work their ars off to get low wages, then get taxed at 45% tax bracket for earning the equivalent of minimum wage in more developed country. Then the commi housing schemes created to screw foreign investors, when the young Portuguese should be earning enough to buy the properties themselves. There is so much to say and change, but not enough space on this message board.

Vote for the right Government, that charges less tax. Vote for a Government that will axe off your taxes. Then you will have more money in your pocket, when taxes are lower.

Young people coming in, with Portuguese as a 2nd language, need more slots to open up for the CIPLE exam (and beyond); if Portugal is serious about bringing in youth and high need professionals for integration. Currently, the process of immigration is not streamlined and difficult for working aged; including the ability to show language proficiency. Ancillary processes for residence permit holders need improvement: Easier changing of address with SNS (for example, as young people tend to move more), online address change with AIMA, online testing for parts of the language testing or more work friendly dates/availability of dates/more available locations, (online driver's license exchange even?), etc.

DARKO and TONY are both spot on with their comments. Bring young people from East EU countries who have skills, can start earning straight away (particularly if they have building/construction skills), and who have similar cultural backgrounds to PT lifestyle.

After 5 years We are extremely disappointed in the lack of enviromental understanding by the aurhorities as well as the population. The environmental Pollution is extreme. Especially noise Pollution that makes living in Portugal a pain.
Second - nothing is fone with precision. 100% of all new buildings, new roads and new parks are a disaster. 80% of all new parks needs to be completely restored after 5 years.
We have never seen such waste of public- tax payed or contributions from EU - money ever in Europe. Its comparable to underdeveloped countries in Africa. To all EU citicens. You can not live here. This standard of living is half the price anywhere else - in the world!

It is a problem for all European countries, not only Portugal. Europe has an old population , and to pay pension and other cost, all the countries need young people. For Portugal it is necessary to make it more easy to get license to build, not taking, 1 to 3 years, with stupid arguments, why it takes that much time.
