Of the 134 projects chosen to receive grants from the MIE, the European Union (EU) program for investment in transport infrastructures, five are in Portugal, with financing estimated at more than 900 thousand euros, one of which is national, with the remaining plurinational projects involving the participation of a national entity.

The Portuguese project, according to a statement, is the construction of the first phase of the new high-speed line between Lisbon and Porto, covering 142 kilometres of railway works and 51 kilometres of new single-track connections, allowing for a future railway connection between Portugal and Spain and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
