As soon as we arrived at the Seafaris’ stand just at the Marina of Lagos, we were greeted by the Seafaris’ team with great enthusiasm, and welcomed with some cake and sparkling wine to celebrate Seafaris' long success. Afterwards, we departed from the Marina of Lagos and set out on a voyage aboard the Tornado.
Whether you like to sit in the front or rear, the 28-seater boat has a variety of seats to select from, making it ideal for a comfortable and enjoyable ride for individuals of all ages. With two engines that have a combined output of 1000 horsepower, Tornado is the largest semi-rigid passenger transport in Europe. Its speed makes it an exhilarating experience for those who crave excitement. The captain makes sure to provide extra adrenaline-pumping moments to the journey by occasionally spinning around and speeding.
Interesting facts about the coast and its cliffs and caves were shared by the outstanding crew members during the boat ride, keeping the visitors entertained and unable to contain their laughter, adding to the enjoyment and educational side of the experience.
According to what we were informed, the fishermen, years ago, before the new technologies were part of our lives, gave each cave along the coast of Lagos a specific name so they could find their way around while navigating the sea. These names were derived mostly from the several rooms that make up a house, depending on the size, shape, and meaning that a particular cave would convey. We were lucky to explore a few of the caverns and take in the striking beauty of the patterns and colours of these famous cliffs.
Dolphins
Seafaris was Algarve's first company to look for dolphins in their natural habitat. The fully certified captains have a strong understanding of dolphin behaviour in the area, guaranteeing sightings at 95% of the tours – and our boat tour was no exception. While we were enjoying the breeze in our faces and taking in the views of Lagos and its surroundings from a different perspective, we were all of a sudden pleasantly surprised by a couple of dolphins. We had the opportunity to stop and enjoy this natural spectacle with dolphins playing around the boat – and we even caught one of them jumping high into the air – definitely a moment to remember! Besides dolphins, the captain did let us know that at times it is also possible to spot some sharks and turtles.
In addition to the Dolphin Watching tour, Benagil Cave and Ponta da Piedade are the other unique boat tour experiences that Seafaris offers, giving interested visitors a wide range of options to suit their preferences. In the Benagil Cave boat tour, the most visited tourist spot in the Algarve, you will be able to discover the Algarve coast's true gems — its beaches, cliffs, and caves — as well as its richness and geological diversity. Over the course of the two-hour tour, a smaller boat, the Cyclone, a semi-rigid inflatable boat equipped with a 350 horsepower engine which is used for this tour and fits 18 passengers, allows the visitors the chance to explore the interior of six caverns along the way.
The shortest tour, which takes around an hour, enables you to explore Ponta da Piedade, a must-see if you are visiting Lagos. Its amazing rock formations of massive cliffs and incredible caves and tunnels, make this site an unforgettable experience. On board one of the small vessels which fit easily into the tiny sea-crafted caves - Sueste V and Sueste VI – that take up to 9 passengers, you will be immersed in the authentic coastline of Lagos and learn more about its past.
With Seafaris celebrating its 25th anniversary, there has never been a better moment to experience its tours - fun and excitement are certain, and you can also take advantage of a 15% discount on all trips as a commemoration for this milestone. Seafaris’ team members were fantastic at all times, and in addition to their welcoming personalities, they were also highly knowledgeable, enabling us to get to know a few curiosities and learn more about the geological, historical and marine features of the area.
