The Lilly Endowment has gifted $100 million to the National Parks Foundation (NPF) for the purpose of protecting and restoring the most fragile ecosystems at immediate risk of degradation.
Some national parks like the Glacier or Canyonlands are enshrined to protect whole tracts of pristine landscape, while others are established to protect very small tracts of very vulnerable ecosystems, such as Biscayne Bay and the Channel Islands.
