According to the Taiwanese Department of Agriculture, 160,000 metric tons of mollusk shells are discarded annually from restaurant and fishing businesses.

By grounding up and processing the shells, Eddie Wang was able to produce a flexible yarn that has been appropriately dubbed “sea wool”. His company produces 900 tonnes of sea wool thread every year and earns $6 million in gross revenue.
