Maria do Rosário Ramalho was speaking at the PSD and CDS-PP parliamentary sessions, when she announced that, "within the scope of the international day of older persons", at the next Council of Ministers, which will take place on Wednesday, the Government will launch "measures in the area of longevity and dependencies".
The minister stated that one of them "has already been pre-announced" in the commentary space of the social democrat Luís Marques Mendes, on SIC: "The updates of new pensions in the immediately subsequent year".
The PS announced a legislative initiative in this regard this morning.
Since 2006, the law has established that pensions and retirement benefits from the Caixa Geral de Aposentações or Social Security are only updated after the second year of their allocation. The BE has scheduled a debate in parliament for October 17th on a bill from its bench regarding this topic.
"But I want to tell you that it is not the only one we are going to launch", stated the minister.
Maria do Rosário Ramalho highlighted that the current minority executive relaunched "the permanent committee for social dialogue that the PS completely ignored during its Government", stressing that the executive is concerned with an "overall appreciation of salaries", particularly the average salary.
The minister stated that the government intends to “take another look at labour legislation” and, with regard to the proposed State Budget for 2025, the ministry foresees “some budgetary savings resulting from the reorganisation of the ministry’s services and also from greater efficiency in combating tax evasion and fraud”.
