In statements to Lusa news agency, José Miranda, ANEPC operations officer, told Lusa that between 18:00 on Tuesday and 09:00 today, 1,329 incidents were recorded, more than 77% of which were falling trees and in the north of the mainland.
“The northern region was the most affected by the bad weather, with 988 incidents, with the highest number, 415, being recorded in the Metropolitan Area of Porto, with many trees falling due to the wind,” he added.
According to José Miranda, the bad weather did not cause damage to homes, but it did to vehicles, and was affecting the Minho Line in Barcelos at 10:00, which was interrupted due to fallen trees.
“3,850 operators and 1,321 land resources were involved in these incidents,” he said.
The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) issued yellow warnings for districts in the north and center of the country related to strong winds and rain until 12:00 today.
