Customers of these companies who have eligible mobile phones will continue to access the fifth-generation mobile network at no additional cost, benefiting from lower latency and faster Internet access. But you need to be in an area where there is 5G coverage.
This is not the first time that campaigns have been extended by operators. Since launching of 5G in late 2021 (or early 2022, in the case of Meo), the three companies have announced successive extensions, extending a transition period for customers to experience the technology, while acquiring compatible mobile phones.
It is also a way to allow companies to gradually expand and develop their networks. According to a balance sheet by Anacom, the sector regulator, at the end of September there were 4,317 5G antennas in Portugal, distributed across 271 municipalities. But 74% of parishes considered low density still did not have any 5G station.
