The month of February brings Carnival celebrations and a good reason to enjoy a romantic day. In an atmosphere of festivity and revelry, couples can also enjoy a moment for two when celebrating Valentine’s Day.

February 14 is the ideal date to escape routine and do something different. Taking advantage of the historic slogan of Turismo de Portugal, “Go outside inside”, Postal has based their suggestions on the Algarve Portugal Tourism Guide to offer some ideas on how to spend Valentine’s Day in the south of the country.

Ilha Deserta

The famous Ilha Deserta, located in the Ria Formosa Natural Park, is an uninhabited island, which is seven kilometers long, with just a restaurant, a small lighthouse and some huts. You can travel to the island by ferry or speedboat from Faro.

This place is a paradise, an ideal location to spend time together, watch the sea and enjoy the beauty of nature.

Cacela Velha

In the Ria Formosa Natural Park, you can also find the Praia da Cacela Velha. This beach has been selected by several international publications as one of the best beaches in Europe and even the world.

It can be accessed by boat or on foot, when the tide is low, from the village with the same name. Couples can take the opportunity to spend a long weekend in this area of the Algarve and enjoy not only the beach but also the beautiful village which includes a small church and a 17th-century fort.

Tavira

According to the website, this is the most romantic city in the Algarve, with its two islands, Ilha de Tavira and Ilha das Cabanas, among the best in the Algarve region. However, Tavira is not just beaches, this city has managed to preserve its traditional architecture, with its exotic “scissor roofs” and maintain its Renaissance churches. All this, combined with the historical charm of its cobbled streets and castle ruins, make this a perfect place to enjoy a romantic day.

Sagres

This location was once considered to be the end of the world, Cabo de São Vicente, in Sagres, is where you can admire one of the most beautiful sunsets in Europe. And as sunsets are also associated with romance, there is nothing better than a trip to Sagres to enjoy the most romantic day of the year.

Ponta da Piedade

While in Lagos, couples must visit the famous Ponta da Piedade, which offers one of the most beautiful landscapes in the entire country. This natural wonder is made up of rock formations and caves shaped by the sea and wind over thousands of years.

Following the romantic theme, an excellent activity for Valentine’s Day would be a boat trip, where you can have an incredible natural experience, through the several caves and a different view of the acclaimed Praia do Camilo, Praia de Dona Ana or Praia dos Pinheiros, the latter being a secret beach which is difficult to access.

Praia da Marinha

This is considered to be one of the most romantic beaches in the world, due to its incredible rock formations, which include two arches that, when viewed from a certain angle, form a heart.

This unusual rock formation can be viewed from the top of a cliff. If you end up climbing the cliff to observe this wonder of nature, you should also take the opportunity to follow the scenic pedestrian trail to Praia do Vale de Centeanes, a path known as the “Percurso dos Sete Vales Suspensos”.

Benagil Cave

Along the “Percurso dos Sete Vales Suspensos” you can find the Benagil beach, where the spectacular and famous Benagil Cave is located. This cave has a small beach accessible only by boat or kayak and resembles a temple with a skylight which illuminates the interior form above.

This is an ideal time of year to visit this little Algarve wonder, avoiding the summer crowds.

Praia do Carvalho

Also along the trail, you can find Praia do Carvalho, accessible through a “secret” tunnel, and as you pass through it, you arrive at a magical setting, in one of the most beautiful landscapes of the Algarve.

Praia da Falésia

This is a beach with red and golden cliffs, about 40 meters high, reminiscent of the Grand Canyon. Take advantage of February 14, to enjoy some romantic moments on this beach in the municipality of Albufeira and revel in the view from the top of the cliffs at sunrise and sunset.

Praia de São Rafael

This is a very popular beach among young couples, due to its natural beauty, and because of the hotels in the surrounding area. Here you can witness the stunning views from the top of cliffs, on one of the most recommended beaches in the Algarve.

Prainha

At this location you can take advantage of Valentine’s Day by engraving romantic words for eternity. In the small hidden caves, you can read several declarations of love and leave one of your own.

And if you are a couple who are active on social media, take advantage of the shell-shaped covers as a backdrop for a couple’s selfie and of the highly “postable” landscape.

Praia dos Beijinhos

Well, it seems as though everything in the Algarve is designed in detail for lovers. The name of this location is already quite suggestive for enjoying a romantic day, “Kisses Beach” in English, is an ideal place to visit on Valentine’s Day.

Carvoeiro

The small and romantic fishing village of Carvoeiro is perfect for basking in panoramic views of the Algarve coast. You can take the opportunity to visit Algar Seco, a delightful place where you will fall in love, not only with your partner, but also with the rock formations overlooking the sea, which attract thousands of visitors every year.

Quinta do Lago

Last but not least, we have one of the most luxurious tourist villages in Europe. Quinta do Lago has some of the best hotels and restaurants in the country, including a very peaceful beach.

Access to the beach is possible via an elevated walkway, where you can observe an incredible view of the sunset, in the romantic setting of Valentine’s Day.
