According to the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) today 768 people are hospitalised with Covid-19, 24 more compared to Sunday, 154 of which are in intensive care, three less in the last 24 hours.

The area of ​​Lisbon and Vale do Tejo with 411 cases and the North region with 376 have 69.3% of the total of new infections verified in the last 24 hours.

The deaths occurred in the region of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (4), in the North region (1) in the Center region (2), Alentejo (2) and in the Algarve (2).

Regarding the ages of the victims, the bulletin reveals that eight were over 80 years old, one between 70 and 79 years old and two between 60 and 69 years old.

Regarding the age characterisation of new confirmed cases of infection, it is in young people between 20 and 29 years (men and women) that there were more cases, with 314 more infected in the last 24 hours.

This is followed by the age groups between 10 and 19 years old (270 new cases) and between 30 and 39 years old (150 new cases).

Data released by the DGS also show that there are 63 fewer active cases, totalling 43,919, and that 1,187 people were reported recovered in the last 24 hours, increasing the national total to 941,593 recovered.

The region of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, with the notification of 411 new infections, counts so far 392,114 cases and 7,517 deaths.

In the Northern region, 376 new infections by SARS-CoV-2 were registered, totalling 387,408 cases of infection and 5,470 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the Centre region there were 93 more cases, accumulating 133,589 infections and 3,062 deaths.

In the Alentejo, 29 more cases were reported, totalling 35,420 infections and 1000 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the Algarve region, the bulletin reveals that 151 new cases were registered, accumulating 36,557 infections and 413 deaths.

The Autonomous Region of Madeira registered 30 new cases, totalling 11,156 infections and 72 deaths due to covid-19 since March 2020.

The Azores today have 45 new cases, accounting for 8,226 cases and 39 dead since the beginning of the pandemic.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information published in the DGS bulletin.

Of the total number of fatalities, 9,227 were men and 8,346 women.

The greatest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old, followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old.

Of the total deaths, 11,487 were over 80 years old, 3,761 between 70 and 79 years old, and 1,594 were between 60 and 69 years old.

The incidence rate of infections by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in the last 14 days dropped again in the continent and at the national level, while the transmissibility index (Rt) increased again from 0.95 to 0.96.

The joint epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General of Health and the National Institute of Health Doctor Ricardo Jorge, released today, reveals that the incidence rate (average of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days) dropped to 314.5 nationwide, when on Friday it was at 319.9.

In mainland Portugal, the incidence rate dropped today to 318.8 (on Friday it was 324.6).

The Rt - which estimates the number of secondary cases of infection resulting from a person carrying the virus - is currently 0.96 throughout the territory of Portugal (it was 0.95 on Friday).

The Rt data and the incidence of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants within 14 days - indicators that make up the risk matrix for monitoring the pandemic - are updated by the health authorities on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
