The circulation path/taxiway’Fox” at Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport, in Porto, was concluded at the end of October.
"We added 1,300m to the circulation path parallel to the runway, including a detour that will allow for a better sequence of take-offs and a quick departure from the 300m runway", says ANA, noting that during the works "600m of the taxiway were rehabilitated ' and new operational signage was installed, using more than 200 km of electrical cables”.
This investment, of around €31 million, by ANA/VINCI Airports, represents a fundamental operational improvement, with an immediate positive impact for airlines and passengers. This new aircraft circulation path will improve the efficiency and capacity of Porto airport and consequently reinforce its importance in the region and in the country as a catalyst for economic development”, explains the company.
According to ANA, the expansion of the 'taxiway' allows Porto airport to “maintain its path of sustained growth in the future”.
“In the period prior to the pandemic crisis, Porto airport consistently achieved high levels of passenger traffic growth and is today among the best airports to recover in Portugal, with more than 60% of the traffic registered in 2019 already recovered”, stresses the manager of national airports.
The works were “part of ANA/VINCI's strategy for the modernisation of Porto airport, whose investments have already included the remodelling of the commercial area, a new security screening area, using state-of-the-art technology and innovation applied to improving the passenger experience”.
ANA said that “this continuous investment and strategy has deserved strong recognition from the industry, such as the recent mention of Porto airport as being 'highly commended' in the ACI Europe Awards 2021”.
“In 2020, the Airports Council distinguished Porto airport as 'Best European Airport in the category of 5 to 15 million passengers'. Porto airport also recently received the Clean and Safe seal from Turismo de Portugal and was certified by Bureau Veritas, which approves the sanitary measures implemented by VINCI Airports”, says the statement.
