The Wine in Azores event will take place at the Exhibition Pavilion of the São Miguel Agricultural Association, in Ribeira Grande, said Joaquim Costa, from Gorgeous Azores, the event organisers.
"Of course, this year there will be a smaller number of people, but there will be a good fair, with 70 wine producers", said the promoter.
In view of the measures imposed by Covid-19, the event's capacity was reduced to about a quarter of the usual number, and, according to Joaquim Coutinho Costa, around 4,000 people a day are expected, having already sold “a lot of tickets online”.
The cost a ticket is €5 and participants will have to purchase the official crystal glass, also for €5, “cheaper than the normal price in stores”.
Joaquim Costa highlights that “the presence of regional producers has been consolidating”, and “at least five of the biggest have been at the event” in recent editions.
The Azores, through the recovery of its vineyards, have been increasing cultivation areas, based on public support made available for this purpose, and increasing the number of wine brands, with Azorean whites winning several awards in recent years.
The official highlights the usual 'geocooking' area, with the presence of 10 cuisine 'chefs' from outside the region, in addition to the locals, highlighting the presence of Daniel Galmiche, 'Chef Consultor' who has been awarded four Michelin stars since 1990, who is known as the "champion of classic cuisine with a touch of contemporaneity".
Present will be 'chefs' Renato Cunha, from Ferrugem restaurant, Francisco Gomes, from pastry shop A Colonial, Luís Portugal, from Tasca José Tuga, Pedro Jorge, from Masterchef Júnior, Luís Miguel Barradas, executive chef at Okah Restaurante & Rooftop, in Lisbon, Gil Fernandes, 'chef' of Fortaleza do Guincho, Hugo Brito, of Boi-Cavalo Restaurante, and Joaquim Saraiva Leal, of Taberna Sal Grosso.
To access the event, it will be necessary to present a digital certificate of vaccination against Covid-19 or, alternatively, proof of a test carried out in the last 72 hours.
