According to the same source, the party's president, Luís
Montenegro, proposed to the Permanent Political Commission of the PSD, which he
has just approved, a proposal to reduce the minimum legal age for voting to 16
years.
According to the current text of the Constitution, “all
citizens over eighteen years of age have the right to vote, except for the
incapacities provided for in the general law”.
Chega opened a constitutional review process with the
delivery to parliament of a constitutional review project that was admitted on
October 12. According to the Constitution of the Republic, “when a
constitutional revision project is presented, any others will have to be
presented within thirty days”.
In addition to Chega and PSD, the PS and the Liberal
Initiative have already indicated that they will present a project to change
the Basic Law.
Amendments to the Constitution must be approved by a
two-thirds majority of the deputies (in the current parliamentary framework,
this implies the favourable vote of PS and PSD) and the President of the
Republic cannot refuse to enact the revision law.
