According to CIVISA, the earthquake was recorded at 15:29 local time (16:29 in Lisbon) and had an epicentre about two kilometres from Santo Amaro, São Jorge island.

According to the information available so far, the earthquake was felt with maximum intensity III/IV on the Modified Mercalli scale in the parish of Urzelina (municipality of Velas).
