In the message, published in the early morning, the prime minister expressed his support for the entire delegation, underlining the “uncertainties and difficulties involved in the pandemic”.

“The uncertainties and difficulties imposed by the pandemic reinforce our support for the entire Delegation and demonstrate your exceptional capacity to overcome problems”, says the government official, adding: “The Portuguese enthusiastically accompany you. We believe in your success. We share the same dreams. Good luck!"

The Tokyo2020 Olympic Games kick off today, with the opening ceremony held at the National Stadium in the Japanese capital, one year later than scheduled due to the postponement caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
