When questioned about his campaign budget, the candidate declared that it is "25 thousand euros", adding: "I intend not to spend more than that".
According to the document delivered to the Constitutional Court, most of the expenses will be for "administrative and operational costs", amounting to €16,000. The candidate estimates also spending €3,500 on "advertising, print and digital communication" and €1,500 on "campaign design, communication agencies and market studies".
The election campaign for the presidential elections on January 24 will run between 10 and 22 of January.
This budget is 84% ??lower than what Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa presented five years ago when he ran for the 2016 presidential elections, which foresaw expenses to the tune of €157,000.
According to the accounts delivered after these elections, released by the Constitutional Court on June 22, 2016, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, who had estimated to spend 157 thousand euros, presented expenses of 179,408 euros and revenues of 224,408 euros, of which 165,488 euros came from the grant and 45 thousand euros in donations.
One year after his election, on January 24, 2017, the President of the Republic announced the decision to donate the remaining 45 thousand euros from his campaign to a private institution of social solidarity in Cinfães, in the district of Viseu, and to a Mogadouro school, in the Bragança district.
