In a statement sent to the Portuguese Securities Market Commission (CMVM) regarding the quarterly results (profits of €60 million), BPI reveals that the number of workers decreased to 4,597, 25 less than the 4,622 with which it closed the year in 2020.

Compared to the first quarter of 2020, the number of workers decreased by 234, as the bank led by João Pedro Oliveira e Costa had 4,831 employees at the end of March last year.

In terms of branches, compared to the end of 2020, the bank lost 18, including 17 branches and a ‘premier’ centre, accounting for 404 posts in the distribution network at the end of the first quarter.

BPI also announced profits of €60 million for the first quarter, a tenfold increase compared to the six million reported in the same period last year.

According to the statement sent to the CMVM, BPI recorded a consolidated profit of €60 million in the first three months of the year, €54 million of which related to activity in Portugal.
