According to RTÉ, Public Image Limited, the band that Lydon, also known as Johnny Rotten, formed after the Sex Pistols, will be competing against five other acts to have the chance to be the Eurovision entry for Ireland.
The song being performed by the band is named “Hawaii” and has been described as a “Love letter to Lydon’s wife of nearly five decades who is living with Alzheimer’s”.
Whether or not the song will become the official entry for Ireland will be decided by a national jury of experts, an international jury, and a public vote.
The Eurovision grand final is due to take place in Liverpool on 13 May.
