The Association of Hotels and Tourist Enterprises of the
Algarve (AHETA) released the provisional data for November and revealed that,
compared to the same period in 2021, “occupancy per room rose by 7.2 percentage
points (+19%)”.
The same source underlined that, despite the drop of 0.6
percentage points (minus 1.4%) compared to the same period in 2019, the year
prior to the emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic and in which tourist activity
broke records for overnight stays in the region, occupancy in November showed
an upward trend in relation to the previous year.
AHETA also highlighted that “the external market increased
by 2.6% compared to 2019, contributing to an increase of 0.7 percentage points
in bed occupancy”, while “the national market decreased by 3.7% (-0.2
percentage points)".
As for the source markets of tourists, the “Irish (+1.1
percentage points, +135%) was the one that presented the biggest increase,
followed by the British (+1.0 percentage points, +12.1%)”.
In a reverse trend, the biggest declines were felt in the "German (-1.3 percentage points, -26.8%) and Dutch (-0.7 percentage points, -21.6%)" markets, added AHETA.
