"For Sunday and Monday, rain is forecast throughout the
mainland", warns Patrícia Gomes, from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea
and the Atmosphere (IPMA), in statements to Notícias ao Minuto, noting a drop
in temperatures and snowfall in the highlands.
"In the first hours of Monday, snow is expected above
1,200 meters and will rise to the high points of Serra da Estrela", she
said.
After the rain stops Portugal will be 'invaded' by a mass of
cold air, which will make the minimum and maximum temperatures drop
considerably until Thursday and Friday, the 18th and 19th of January.
"The maximum will be around eight and 14 degrees
Celsius, while the minimum temperatures, mainly in the areas closer to the
coast, will be between three and six degrees Celsius", said Patrícia
Gomes.
The meteorologist also mentions that the regions of the
Interior North and Centre may even have temperatures below zero.
The meteorologist detailed that, for tomorrow, Friday and
Saturday, light rain is forecast on the north and central coast, with more
likely showers in Minho and on the Douro coast.
"An increase in minimum temperatures is expected"
in these regions.
