On April 24, 2022, the Algarve circuit will host the fifth of the 21 races scheduled for next year's MotoGP World Championship, which will include the participation of Portuguese rider Miguel Oliveira (KTM).
According to the calendar released today, the Worlds starts on March 6th, in Qatar, and ends on November 6th, in Valencia.
The 2022 race will be the fourth MotoGP race at the AIA, which already hosted the 2020 Portugal Grand Prix, won by Miguel Oliveira, and 2021, won by Frenchman Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha), and will also receive the Grand Prix of Algarve, on November 7, replacing the Australian race, canceled due to the covid-19 pandemic.
The first edition of the Grand Prix of Portugal was held in 1987, at the Jarama circuit, in Spain, followed by 13 editions at the Estoril race track, between 2000 and 2012.
Of the 21 races scheduled for 2022, the FIM points out that the races in Indonesia, on March 20th, and in Finland, on July 10th, are still subject to homologation by the Mandalika and KyimiRing circuits, respectively.
