In 2021, there were 830,227 divorcees in Portugal,
representing 8% of the total population. This means an increase of 39.8%
compared to 2011 when 593,667 people had 'Divorced' as their marital status -
at the time, 5.6% of the population.
The increase turns out to be much more significant, however,
when scrolling further back through the decades, for example, in 1981, reveals
Pordata, there were only 43,318 divorced people in Portugal. This means an
increase of 1,916% since then.
