In a statement, the
National Maritime Authority adds that the forecast for the state of the sea
points to "a worsening of weather conditions and maritime agitation in the
southern area of mainland Portugal, between 6:00 pm tomorrow [Thursday] and
12:00 pm Friday".
According to the
authorities, in the southern region of mainland Portugal, sea swell will be
characterised by a swell coming from the southwest quadrant, "with a
significant height that can reach five metres and a maximum height of nine
metres".
Also in the Azores
archipelago, "a considerable worsening of weather conditions and maritime
agitation" is expected, from 18:00 on Friday and until 12:00 on Monday.
The sea wave will be
characterized by a wave coming from the southwest quadrant, with a significant
height that can reach 12 metres and a maximum height of 22 metres, with an
average period that can vary between 14 and 16 seconds.
The general population
is advised against taking walks along the coastline and on beaches, as well as
the practice of activities in areas exposed to the sea.
