In a statement, the GNR released provisional data for the
period between December 22nd and 7:30am today, during which it registered 867
accidents, which caused eight fatalities, 12 serious injuries, and 199 minor
injuries.
In total, 28,389 drivers were inspected, of which 217 were
driving with excess alcohol. Of these, 107 were arrested for having a blood
alcohol level equal to or greater than 1.2 g/l.
65 people were also arrested for driving without a driving
licence.
Of the 5,404 offenses detected, 1,680 were due to speeding,
406 to the lack of mandatory periodic inspections, 186 to the lack or incorrect
use of seat belts and/or child seats, 111 to improper use of mobile phones
while driving and 147 the lack of obligatory civil liability insurance.
The GNR's "Operation Christmas and New Year 2022"
runs until January 2nd.
