"Christmas is a festive season but it is also a time when we get used to seeing all the rubbish bins in cities overflowing with rubbish", states Pordata in a post on Twitter.
They pose the question: "Did you know that, per inhabitant, around 513 kg of waste is produced in a year? That is, 1.4 kg per day".

Pordata also states that, from 1995 to 2020, there was an
increase in municipal waste produced in the European Union (EU), in general
terms, although there were countries - such as Bulgaria, Slovenia, or Hungary -
that reduced values.
In the 'Top 5' of the largest waste producers are Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and Poland. In contrast, Latvia, Cyprus, Estonia, Luxembourg, and Malta are the least waste producers in the EU.
