With wedding season well underway, the villa specialists at CV Villas have analysed global Google searches from the past year to unearth where newlyweds most want to jet off to on the continent.

They have collated a list of 197 European destinations, and analysed global Google searches for ‘destination name + honeymoon’ from the past 12 months, to compare them to the previous year - revealing which ones are on the rise for 2024/25.

With a staggering 2.94 million searches made in the past year for European honeymoons, it’s clear the continent has much to offer couples in love, and the top trending destination for 2024/25 is none other than the Greek island of Lefkada. This beautiful destination is nestled in the Ionian Sea and offers couples swimming opportunities in sparkling blue waters with the famous white cliffs of Cape Lefkada in the background. Compared to last year, searches for honeymoons on this Mamma Mia-worthy island are up 120% making it Europe’s top trending place to celebrate tying the knot.

Split in Croatia is second on the list, seeing a 110% rise in searches in this marble-adorned town that overlooks the glittery Adriatic Sea. Often overlooked by Dubrovnik (which is joint 19th on the list), the research proves that loved-up pictures in Split will be all over our timelines over the next year or so.

Following in third place is Bled, which is undeniably made famous by the pristine, and iconic, Lake Bled. The postcard-perfect and vast water is decorated with a storybook island church and a medieval castle on the rocky cliffs - it’s a destination that oozes romance for those in their newly-wed bubbles.

Madeira, in Portugal, makes the top five, with an 85% increase in searches among honeymooners. The island, which in recent years has drawn increasing interest among travellers on social media, wows couples with stunning romantic spots. From the Madeira Botanical Garden to the Monte Palace Tropical Garden, and a dip in Porto Moniz natural swimming pools, there's no shortage of places to indulge in the first few weeks of married life.
