“It is still a little early to be sure of the exact amounts of precipitation [forecast from Monday], however it has the potential to have amounts of precipitation locally similar to those that have been verified [in recent days]”, said Jorge Ponte, IPMA meteorologist, in statements to Lusa.
Considering the forecasts for the mainland, the IPMA is expected to issue a yellow warning for Monday, for some areas of Portugal.
This frontal system is associated with “a depression that, at the moment, is to the west of the Azores and that is moving slowly towards the east”.
The meteorologist said there is no exact information on where the strongest precipitation will occur next week, but the depression “has the potential to result in high amounts of precipitation, not least because it has a slow advance and, therefore, where the front persists may have high accumulations”.
