In a press release, the Castelo Branco Territorial Command said the rescue of the animals was done through the Environmental Protection Nucleus (NPA), on 13 April.
"Following a complaint, the GNR went to the site where they verified an unlicensed kennel," reads the press release.
According to the GNR, the operation had the collaboration of the municipal veterinarian of Castelo Branco.
They "rescued 25 dogs, 12 of which were still puppies, in facilities without conditions, with small spaces and without sunlight".
The animals were transported to the Animal Collection Centre (CRA) of Castelo Branco for monitoring and recovery of their health status.
In this operation a suspect was identified and the case has been referred to the Judicial Court of Castelo Branco.
