According to the epidemiological bulletin of the DGS released today, 301 people are hospitalised, 20 fewer than on Thursday, of which 55 in intensive care units, less one in the last 24 hours.

Of the registered deaths, two occurred in the Lisbon region, three in the Centre and two in the Alentejo.

Six of the victims were over 80 years old and one between 70 and 79 years old.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, 18,078 people have died in Portugal and 1,078,729 cases of infection have been registered.

The greatest number of deaths continues to be concentrated among the elderly over 80 years (11,793), followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years (3,870).

Of the total number of fatalities registered to date, 9,483 in Portugal were men and 8,595 women.

The data released by the DGS also show that 135 more cases are active, for a total of 30,212, and that 624 people were reported as recovered from covid-19 in the last 24 hours, which increases the national total to 1,030,439 recovered.

In the last 24 hours, the number of contacts under surveillance by the health authorities dropped (less than 160), standing at 21,426

Among the new infections, the age groups from 20 to 29 years old (over 157), from 30 to 39 (over 107), from 10 to 19 (over 95), from 40 to 49 (over 94), followed by 50 to 59 years old (over 84), from 0 to 9 years old (over 69), from 60 to 69 years old (over 60), from over 80 years old (over 48), and from 70 to 79 years old (over 46).

In the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region, 230 new infections were reported, with 416,627 cases and 7,704 dead so far in this geographic area.

The Northern region registered 226 new infections by SARS-CoV-2, totalling 413,104 cases of infection and 5,579 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic crisis.

In the Centre region there were 179 more cases, totalling 144,487 infections and 3,165 deaths.

In the Alentejo, 37 new cases of infection were reported, totalling 39,693 infections and 1,041 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the Algarve region, today's DGS bulletin counts 62 new cases, accumulating 43,290 infections by SARS-CoV-2 and 473 deaths.

The Autonomous Region of Madeira recorded 12 new cases, totalling 12,431 infections and 72 deaths due to the covid-19 disease since March 2020.

In the last 24 hours, and according to DGS, the Azores registered 28 new cases, which raises to 9,097 infections since the beginning of the pandemic and 44 deaths due to the disease.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information published in the DGS bulletin.
