. The data was revealed today, by Pordata, to mark the International Day of Migration. Vila do Bispo, Albufeira, Lagos, Aljezur, Tavira, Loulé, Lagoa and Portimão are the Algarve counties that are part of this “top 10”, which also includes the municipalities of Odemira and Lisbon. Vila do Bispo has the Algarve’s largest foreign resident population (37.4%), followed by Albufeira (35.8%).
No wonder why It has been a favourite destination for many people across the world. Nice weather, beaches, gastronomy, also easier to meet someone for a relationship! I'm Portuguese and I have lived in Lagos, Algarve for about 16 years. Now I live in the UK, with my wife and daughters, all British. At the beginning I was missing the sunshine and I miss it, but I am used to live here, due to many more job opportunities, that I have never really had in my own country! For this reason and others I rather live in the UK.
I remember in one of the main Portuguese newspapers dated early 90s, an English engineer mentioning in the headline: 'Portugal has its head in Europe, but its feet in the third world.' I honestly could not disagree, because it's the reality. We all know that with the current pandemic is not easy, anywhere over the world. Overall I chose UK over Portugal for many personal reasons. My country is the one that treats me better and give more job opportunities!
