The DGS bulletin also reveals that 1,997 patients are hospitalised (170 less than on Monday), the lowest figure since 30 October, when 1,972 people were hospitalised.

Portugal has 446 patients in intensive care today, 23 less than on Monday.

The data also indicates that 3,230 people have been reported recovered, bringing the total number of recovered since the start of the pandemic in Portugal in March 2020 to 723,465.

For 30 consecutive days, the number of returnees has exceeded the number of new infections.

Active cases in Portugal continue to see a decrease, with 65,793 active cases today, down 2,577.

Since March 2020, Portugal has recorded 16,389 Covid-19-associated deaths and 805,647 cases of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infection.

Health authorities have 36,859 contacts under surveillance, down 4,368 from the previous day, with the downward trend continuing since 30 January.

According to the latest data from the Directorate-General for Health, Portugal currently has 885,109 people vaccinated: 618,393 with the first dose and 266,716 with the second dose.

Of the 38 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, 18 occurred in Lisbon and Tagus Valley, 10 in the North region, seven in the Centre region, one in Alentejo and two in the Algarve.

In the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region 255 new infections have been reported, with 305,027 cases and 6,864 deaths so far.

According to the bulletin, the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region now has 36.9 percent of cases registered in the last 24 hours and 47.3 percent of deaths.

The Northern region now has 166 new infections by SARS-CoV-2 and since the beginning of the pandemic has recorded 326,544 cases of infection and 5,225 deaths.

In the Centre region, 73 more cases have been registered, accumulating 115,057 infections and 2,922 deaths.

In the Alentejo, 27 more cases have been reported, totalling 28,501 infections and 948 deaths since the start of the pandemic in Portugal.

The Algarve region has now reported 11 new cases, totalling 20,121 infections and 341 deaths.

Madeira has registered 140 new cases. This autonomous region accounts for 6,614 infections and 61 deaths due to Covid-19.

The Autonomous Region of Azores registered 19 new cases in the last 24 hours and notified in total 3,783 infections and 28 deaths.

The confirmed cases are distributed across all age groups, with the highest number of infections registered between 20 and 59 years old.

The new coronavirus has already infected at least 364,476 men and 440,899 women in Portugal, according to data from the DGS, according to which there are 272 cases of unknown gender, which are under investigation, as these data are not provided automatically.

Of the total number of deaths, 8,569 were men and 7,820 women.

The highest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old, followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old.

Of the total deaths, 10,860 were people aged over 80, 3,448 were aged between 70 and 79 and 1,447 were aged between 60 and 69.

The Covid-19 pandemic has caused at least 2,539,505 deaths worldwide, resulting from more than 114.3 million cases of infection, according to an assessment by the French agency AFP.
