According to today's epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate General of Health (DGS), in the last 24 hours, there was a death attributed to Covid-19, recorded in the North region, bringing the number of deaths in Portugal to a total of 17,118.

There are now 613 people admitted to national hospitals and 133 are in intensive care units, three less than on Monday.

Lisbon and Tagus Valley, with 1,151 new cases of infection by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, concentrates 53 percent of the total number of cases recorded in the last 24 hours.

The data released today by the DGS also indicate that the country has today 341 fewer active cases, totalling 38,488, with 2,510 people having recovered from the disease in the last day.

The number of contacts under surveillance increased from 59,442 to 64,022.

By regions, in addition to the 1,151 cases in Lisbon and Tagus Valley, 637 more cases were registered in the North, 166 in the Centre, 52 in the Alentejo, 145 in the Algarve, ten in Madeira and nine in the Azores.

Since the start of the pandemic, Lisbon and Tagus Valley has recorded a total of 346,991 cases of infection, the North 349,016, the Centre 123,223, Alentejo 31,359, Algarve 25,818, Azores 6,340 and Madeira 9,994.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information disclosed in the DGS bulletin.

A total of 484,806 women and 407,428 men have already been infected in Portugal by the new coronavirus, the data from the health authority also indicate that of 17,118 deaths, 8,986 were men and 8,132 were women.
