In a statement, the authority said that the 70-year-old man "died this morning after allegedly having suffered an accidental fall while walking on a cliff in the area of Praia dos Tomates".
According to AMN, "the victim's body was located on the sand near the cliff, and death was declared at the scene" by the doctor from the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) who assisted the victim.
In addition to INEM, members of the Maritime Police of Portimão and of the Albufeira Volunteer Firemen were also present.
The alert was received at 9:40 am through the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center, and the Maritime Police of Portimão was activated.
The elements of the Maritime Police removed the body off the beach, which was then transported by firefighters to the Institute of Legal Medicine in Portimão.
This poor man lay there from 0940am till after 11am when we passed by. One police officer was there with still no attendance from gnr or ambulance service. He was covered by a flimsy sheet Which uncovered the body every time the wind blew. passers by were taking photos - shame on them. No cordoned off area and no dignity for the deceased.
...by the way, how does a body fall from a cliff and end up on top of the cliff???
