“President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa received this afternoon a booster (or third dose) of the Covid-19 vaccine, and at the same time he was vaccinated against seasonal flu, at the vaccination centre in São Domingos de Rana, in his area of residence (Cascais)”, states a note posted on the Presidency's website.
The note clarifies that the head of state was “summoned by SMS, like any citizen covered by this measure”.
On Sunday, the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) reported that the third dose of the vaccine against Covid-19 was administered to 123,000 Portuguese citizens, as part of the second phase of the vaccination campaign against the flu, which started a week ago.
In the second phase of the flu vaccination campaign, which started last Monday, 123,000 citizens received the third dose or additional dose of the vaccine against covid-19 and 279,000 the flu vaccine, according to the press release from DGS.
This phase includes citizens aged 65 years or over and who are not included in the target groups of the 1st phase and began with users over 80 years old, and is taking place in descending order of age.
Similar to what happened in the first phase, citizens are summoned through a written message to take both vaccines at the same time or just the flu vaccine.
Automatic scheduling is again possible on the Covid-19 Portal, being available from Tuesday to citizens aged 80 years and over.
Full vaccination against covid-19 covers 85.7% of the Portuguese population.
