The number of new cases registered today anticipates by three days the forecast put forward by the Minister of Health, Marta Temido, at a press conference on 28 October.
According to Marta Temido, estimates and analyses of epidemiological modelling carried out by the National Institute of Health Doctor Ricardo Jorge pointed to 1,300 confirmed cases on 7 November, if the risk of transmission registered at that time was maintained.
According to the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS), released today, 357 people are now hospitalised, 27 fewer than on Wednesday, of which 73 are in intensive care units, six more than in the last 24 hours.
The four deaths occurred in the Lisbon region.
The fatal victims were between 70 and 79 years old (2) and over 80 years old (2).
Since March 2020, 18,184 people have died and 1,094,048 cases of infection have been recorded.
The greatest number of deaths continues to be concentrated among the elderly over 80 years old (11,870), followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old (3,891).
Of the total number of fatalities registered to date in Portugal, 9,534 were men and 8,650 women.
The data released by the DGS also shows an additional 542 active cases, for a total of 32,480, and that 836 people were reported as recovered from covid-19 in the last 24 hours, which increases the national total to 1,043,384 recovered.
In the last 24 hours, the number of contacts under surveillance by the health authorities dropped (less 102), standing at 23,028.
The new coronavirus has already infected in Portugal at least 586,910 women and 506,388 men, according to data from the DGS, according to which there are 750 cases of unknown sex, which are under investigation, since this information is not provided automatically .
Among the new infections, the age group from 40 to 49 years old (over 233) stands out, followed by 20 to 29 years old (over 218), from 50 to 59 years old (over 174), from 30 to 39 years old (over 171) , from 0 to 9 years (over 171), from 10 to 19 (over 146), from 60 to 69 (over 116), from 70 to 79 (over 88) and from over 80 (over 65).
In the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region, 544 new infections were reported, with 422,440 cases and 7,742 dead so far in this geographic area.
The Northern region registered 338 new infections by SARS-CoV-2, totalling 417,061 cases of infection and 5,599 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic crisis.
In the Centre region there were 337 more cases, totalling 147,761 infections and 3,188 deaths.
These three regions have registered 88.2 percent of new cases of infection in the last 24 hours.
In the Alentejo, 32 new cases of infection were reported, totalling 40,273 infections and 1,054 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
In the Algarve region, today's DGS bulletin counts 76 new cases, accumulating 44,230 infections by SARS-CoV-2 and 481 deaths.
The Autonomous Region of Madeira recorded 35 new cases, totalling 12,862 infections and 74 deaths due to the covid-19 disease since March 2020.
In the last 24 hours, and according to DGS, the Azores registered 20 new cases, which raises to 9,421 infections since the beginning of the pandemic and 46 deaths due to the disease.
The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information published in the DGS bulletin.
