According to the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) released today, 628 people are now hospitalised, 31 more than on Sunday, of which 93 are in intensive care units, plus four in the last 24 hours.

The 18 deaths were registered in the North (two), in the Centre (four), in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (eight), in the Algarve (two) and in Madeira (two).

The deaths occurred in the age groups between 40 and 49 years old (one), between 50 and 69 years old (three), between 60 and 69 years old (one), between 70 and 79 years old (two) and among the elderly over 80 years old (11), indicates the DGS.

Portugal has not registered such a high daily number of deaths from Covid-19 since August 18, when there were also 18 deaths.

The greatest number of deaths continues to be concentrated among the elderly over 80 years old (11,964), followed by the age groups between 70 and 79 years old (3,926) and between 60 and 69 years old (1,671).

Among the new infections, the age group from 40 to 49 years old (more 250 cases) stands out, followed by zero to nine years old (241), 50 to 59 years old (186), 20 to 29 years old (174), of 10 to 19 years old (172), from 30 to 39 years old (168), from 60 to 69 years old (132), from 70 to 79 years old (87) and for those over 80 years old (62).

Among the 18,339 deaths recorded since the start of the pandemic are 9,602 men and 8,737 women.

According to the DGS bulletin, in the last 24 hours, the greatest number of infections occurred in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region, with 497 notifications, accounting for this geographical area, since the beginning of the pandemic crisis, 432,802 cases and 7,792 deaths.

In the North region, there were 470 more cases, totalling 424,744 and 5,629 deaths.

In the Central region, there were 159 new cases, making a total of 154,294 infections and 3,229 deaths.

The Algarve reported 176 cases, accumulating 46,727 infections and 499 deaths.

In the Alentejo, 108 new cases of infection were reported, totalling 41,485 infections and 1,058 deaths.

According to the DGS, the Autonomous Region of Madeira recorded, in the last 24 hours, 62 new cases, totalling 13,846 infections and 84 deaths.

The Azores registered three new cases, totalling 9,860 infections and 48 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information published in the DGS bulletin.

In the last 24 hours, there were 799 more active cases, totalling 45,759, and another 658 recovered, which increases the national total to 1,059,660 people.

Compared to Sunday, health authorities have over 1,179 contacts under surveillance, now totalling 44,930.
