According to the Idealista price index, renting a house in Portugal had "a cost of 10.70 euros/m2" at the end of December last year, taking into account "the median value".
The analysis carried out by the Idealista also showed that in Lisbon the price for rentals decreased by 2.9 percent, which was the “only decrease in the country in 2021”, in terms of cities, with the cost per square metre now being €13.40.
While the price of houses for rent fell in the Autonomous Region of the Azores (-8.7 percent), in the Metropolitan Area of Lisbon (-4 percent) and in the North (- 1.7 percent), there were rises in rental prices in the Alentejo (9.5 percent), the Algarve (7.6 percent), Autonomous Region of Madeira (6.6 percent) and the Centre of the country (4.9 percent).
The report found that: “The Metropolitan Area of Lisbon, with 12.40 euros/m2, continues to be the most expensive region, followed by the Algarve (9.80 euros/m2), the North (9.10 euros/m2) and the Autonomous Region of Madeira (8.60 euros/m2)”.
The cheapest regions to rent in are the Centre (6.50 euros/m2), Autonomous Region of the Azores, (6.60 euros/m2) and the Alentejo (7.00 euros/m2).
