In the last 24 hours 40 more people were hospitalised with covid-19, now totalling 2,044 admissions, 162 of which in intensive care units, where 10 more people are today.

For the fourth consecutive day, Portugal hits a new daily maximum of new infections, with 2,104 more new infections than on Thursday.

Today's epidemiological bulletin records 20,156 recovered persons (out of a total of 1,675,736 since the start of the pandemic) and 38,325 more active cases, totalling 422,893.

A further 34,280 contacts were placed on surveillance in the last 24 hours, which now stands at 425,910.

Since March 2020, 2,118,125 people have been infected with SARS-CoV-2 and 19,496 deaths associated with covid-19 have been declared.

Of the deaths with covid-19 in the last 24 hours, 19 happened in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley area, 14 in the Northern region, nine in the Central region, five in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, one in Alentejo and one in Algarve.

It is the highest number of deaths of people with covid-19 in 24 hours since February 25, 2021, when 49 people also died.

Most of the new infections were diagnosed in the Northern area, with 24,930 infections (with a total of 789,643 cases and 5,917 deaths of people with covid-19 since the start of the pandemic).

In the Lisbon region there are 17,673 more infections, totalling 816,642 infections and 8,224 deaths with covid-19 since March 2020, while the Centre region records 8,719 more new cases (284,805 in total and 3,434 deaths).

In the Algarve at least 2,199 people have been infected in the last 24 hours (total of 81,464 infections and 610 deaths with covid-19) and in the Alentejo 2,011 more (total of 70,249 cases and 1,105 deaths).

Two of the people with covid-19 who died were between 50 and 59 years old, eight were between 60 and 69 years old, seven between 70 and 79 years old and 32 were over 80 years old.

As for new infections by age group, 9,886 were recorded in children up to 9 years, 9,308 between 10 and 19 years, 7,572 between 20 and 29 years, 9,898 between 30 and 39, 10,850 between 40 and 49 years, 5,614 between 50 and 59 years, 2,871 between 60 and 69, 1,568 between 70 and 79 years and 963 in people aged 80 years or older.

SARS-CoV-2 has already infected at least 1,121,742 women and 994,224 men in Portugal. There are still 2,159 cases of unknown sex that are under investigation, as these data are not provided automatically.

Of the people with covid-19 who died, 10,256 were men and 9,240 were women.
