According to the statement from the Council of Ministers, the document will change the scope of application of the resolution that grants temporary protection to people coming from Ukraine as a result of the war situation.
The resolution extends “the scope of application of the temporary protection regime to non-Ukrainian citizens, third-country nationals or stateless persons, and their relatives, who benefit from international protection in Ukraine, as well as to non-Ukrainian citizens, nationals of third countries or stateless persons residing in Ukraine who cannot return to their country of origin,” the statement said.
Speedy integration
The Portuguese Government has also approved “exceptional measures” in the context of granting temporary protection to people coming from Ukraine as a result of the war, to ensure “an effective and speedy” reception and integration process.
Applicants for temporary protection are automatically granted a residence permit for one year in Portugal, which can be extended twice for a period of six months.
