easyJet will increase its fleet in the Portuguese capital through the addition of a new aircraft in Lisbon and four new routes from Portuguese airports, including Lisbon – Porto Santo; Porto – Prague; Faro – Birmingham and Faro – London Southend.
easyJet now has 16 aircraft in Portugal (6 in Lisbon, 6 in Porto and 4 in Faro), where it already employs a total of more than 550 people, of which 180 are based in Lisbon.
New routes
The company's four new connections will be operating during the summer months. The connection between Lisbon and Porto Santo will be available for travel from the 2nd of June until the 25th of September, through 2 weekly frequencies. The remaining routes (Porto-Prague; Faro-Birmingham and Faro-London Southend) will be operated twice a week, between the beginning of May and the end of October 2022.
easyJet has been operating in Lisbon since 1998, having started operating on domestic routes in 2008. About 4 years later, in April 2012, the company inaugurated its base in the Portuguese capital. So far, the company has transported more than 27.8 million passengers, with 19 connections to European airports in around 9 countries.
José Lopes, Managing Director of easyJet Portugal, said: “It is with great enthusiasm that we celebrate the 10th anniversary of our Lisbon base and hub in Portugal with the announcement of the arrival of one more plane to be based in Lisbon and four new connections to and from Portugal. Over the last few months we have been working to strengthen our position in Portuguese airports and this move is proof of that".
“easyJet has invested in its Portuguese bases with a view to a growth process depending on the opportunities that are emerging. These bets bring benefits that are not limited to profits for the company. In addition, the new routes will also allow us to reinforce our offer and offer our customers more possibilities to travel, whether for work or leisure.
“We are working on recovery and, for that, we need the support of decision-making institutions to ensure greater freedom for people to travel.”
Easyjet knows better how to work with the Portuguese: never complain too much or ask for your rights, as Ryanair does, or you get to the back of the line.
