According to a reading behaviour study by Gfk - an independent entity that audits and counts book sales throughout the year - it was concluded that international book markets recovered strength with “significant growth in 2021”.

“Last year's results were, without exception, positive with the Belgian region of Wallonia (+19%), Brazil (+18.8% ), Portugal (+16.6%), Spain (+16.3%) and Italy (+14.7%) recording double-digit growth rates”, says the consultant.

However, and unlike the other countries, Portugal was the only one that still fell short of 2019 sales figures, before the pandemic.
