On Monday, the country registered 28.8 deaths in 14 days per one million inhabitants, a value that continues to be above the threshold of 20 deaths defined by the European Center for Disease Control (ECDC), according to the document from the Directorate of General of Health (DGS) and the National Institute of Health Doctor Ricardo Jorge (INSA).
This ECDC indicator of 20 deaths per million inhabitants in 14 days is one of the references determined by the Government for the country to move to an unrestricted level of pandemic control.
Regarding the pressure of the pandemic on health services, data from the INSA and the DGS indicate that the number of patients with covid-19 hospitalised in intensive care corresponds to 23.5% of the value considered critical of 255 beds occupied in these units, an indicator which also shows a stable trend.
According to the report, hospitals in the Central and Northern regions are the ones with the highest occupancy of intensive care units, but still with values far from the respective alert levels.
The DGS and INSA also mention that the percentage of positive tests for the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus was 21.8% between April 5th and 11th, above the 4% threshold and registering a “reversal of the downward trend that has taken place”.
