In a statement sent to Lusa, the organisation explains that the “Concert for Earth” is a “dream” that “took almost 20 years to come true” by musician Nuno Bettencourt, director from the production company Atlantis Entertainment, which promotes the event.

“During 'Concert for Earth', we will bring together our universal language and the power of music to celebrate the game-changing entrepreneurs around the world who lead the way with real, tangible solutions to change today's climate narrative” , said Bettencourt.

The concert will bring together “amazing musicians and performances in a sustainable way” and “some of the world's leading activists” in the area of ​​nature conservation.

Set against the backdrop of Lagoa das Sete Cidades, in Ponta Delgada, the initiative will feature concerts by the Americans The Black Eyed Peas, Stone Temple Pilots, the musician Pitbull and Bush.

During the event, which will be presented by Nicole Scherzinger, there will also be a virtual concert by Sting.

Hope and positivity

The “Concert For Earth” wants to shed “a light” of “hope” and “positivity” on the conservation of the planet, going against the language of “guilt” and “disgrace”.

“We've all heard about urgency, but fear is not the answer […] It's time to stop telling everyone how we're going to die, but instead show how we're all going to live,” added Azorean musician Nuno Bettencourt.

The organisation advocates that the world “does not need another music festival”, but rather a “bold call to action” to ensure the protection of the planet.

The festival will have an environmental impact study and the carbon emissions resulting from the event will be monitored.

In the show, which is in partnership with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the work of environmental organizations such as Blue Azores (a program for the conservation and sustainable use of the Azores sea) or The Ocean Cleanup (which developed a technology for cleaning the oceans).

The festival will be broadcast online (with the possibility of receiving donations) and the value of the ticket sales (25 euros for the two days) will be donated to non-profit associations.

The event, financed by private individuals, has the logistical support of the Municipality of Ponta Delgada, the Municipality of Lagoa, the Parish Council of Sete Cidades and the Regional Government.
