Maximums of between 30 and 35 degrees are predicted over the weekend with thermometers hitting the 40 degrees mark in some areas of the Alentejo.
Thirteen municipalities in the districts of Faro, Portalegre, Castelo Branco and Santarém are at maximum fire danger today, according to the IPMA.
The municipalities of Vila Nova da Barquinha, Constância, Tomar, Abrantes, Sardoal, Mação (Santarém), Gavião, Nisa (Portalegre), Proença-a-Nova, Vila Velha de Ródão (Castelo Branco), Loulé, São Brás de Alportel and Tavira (Faro) are at maximum risk of fire.
The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) has also placed several municipalities in the districts of Faro, Beja, Portalegre, Castelo Branco, Santarém, Évora, Lisbon, Guarda, Viseu, Vila Real and Bragança at very high and high danger.
