“It is getting better, this is a fact, but I have always said there will only be true equality between men and women, when an incompetent women is able to reach the highest positions, as is possible for a man”.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa was speaking at the 1st Recruitment Forum organised by the Air Force, at the Thalia Theater, in Lisbon, on the theme of the challenges of military recruitment, talking specifically about the issue of integrating women into the Armed Forces.

“When this happens, as it does with men, then we can truly say that quantitatively we are close”, he underlined.

Marcelo admitted that “it is easier to reflect than to decide” and “to analyse than to change institutions” and that “issues of organisational culture are very slow to change”.
