According to information from the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC), the fire, which broke out around 1:00 pm on Monday near the village of Fica Bem, in the parish of São Marcos da Serra, municipality of Silves, in the district of Faro, has at 9:25 mobilised 597 personnel, with the support of 204 land resources and nine air assets.
On Monday afternoon, this fire led to the evacuation of inhabitants from several villages and the closing of the Complementary Itinerary (IC) 1, in addition to the Autoestrada do Sul (A2).
A source from the National Republican Guard (GNR) told Lusa this morning that the A2 was closed at 18:30 on Monday because of the fire, and it was still closed 07:00, more than 13 hours later, stopping traffic between Ourique (Beja) and São Bartolomeu de Messines (Faro).
