In a statement, the IPMA stressed that maximum temperatures
are to rise between 2 and 4 degrees Celsius (°C) this Friday throughout
mainland Portugal, with the exception of the coastal strip, where there will be
no variation. On Saturday it will rise between 5 and 8°C throughout the North
and Central coast and between 2 and 4°C in the rest of the country.
“At the weekend, maximum temperature should reach values
between 40 and 42°C in the most interior regions of the Douro and Tagus
valleys, in the interior of the Alentejo and in some places in the Interior
Centre”.
In the rest of the country, the maximum temperature will
vary between 35 and 40°C, except along the coast, where values will fluctuate
between 25 and 35°C, with the lowest temperatures occurring on the Alentejo
coast.
Tropical nights
Minimum temperatures are to also rise between Saturday and
Tuesday, with tropical nights predicted, with minimum values above 20°C, in
much of the interior and Algarve.
In the North and Central interior, the IPMA points to the
occurrence of a heat wave from Saturday until at least the end of next week,
while on the coast there will be, as of Monday, a downward trend in maximum
temperatures of between 3 to 5°C.
