In a statement, the office of the Minister for the
Environment and Climate Action reports that a “trend of recovery in the number
of passengers in public transport companies” under the supervision of the
government continues.
“In aggregate terms and compared to the same period in 2021,
in Metropolitano de Lisboa, Metro do Porto and Soflusa/Transtejo, demand
increased by 89%”, says the ministry, stressing that this is still provisional
data.
However, he admits that, despite the increase in the number
of passengers, these values are still below those recorded in July 2019,
“when the operation of companies had not yet been affected by the covid-19
pandemic”, and states that “the number of passengers verified until July 2022
represents 76% of the demand registered in the same period of 2019”.
