“TAP shamefully continues to absorb 3.2 billion euros in
Portuguese state aid, offering even fewer flights and much higher fares to the
detriment of the Portuguese tourist market, economic growth and taxpayers’
money”, states Ryanair.
The low cost airline, which from the very beginning has been
criticising state aid to TAP, specifies that the Portuguese flag carrier costs
“300 euros for every man, woman and child in Portugal”, Portuguese taxpayers’
money that Ryanair says be a “waste”, not least because TAP has been reducing
its operations, unlike Ryanair.
“It is inexplicable that TAP is absorbing 3.2 billion euros
of state aid, and is still reducing capacity and charging high tariffs,
especially to Portuguese citizens trying to get home to see friends and family
during the Christmas season – more than double Ryanair's fares in many cases”,
says a Ryanair spokesperson, quoted in a press release.

I recently flew the last two trips in the last 6 months in first class. The flight attendants were great as usual but the fares were ridiculous and the food is not like it used to be. TAP what happened?

Just flew with TAP this week.
Staff beautiful.
Plane looked ancient, with a mixture of parts from other planes. Interior plastic cracked everywhere.
Contact glue, cellotape and sticky back paper seem to be the maintenance program.
Let somebody else have a go eh.

You can more than double the €300 figure given that half of the residential population will be children, students, unemployed or not earning enough to pay tax.
Why don't they sell TAP? Who would want to buy TAP? As soon as new money came in then flight deck crew would strike, followed by cabin crew followed by every other employee. Sad, but true.

I do not agree. I always fly TAP if possible. Ryanair are a joke. Yes the price of the flight may be less expensive but the price of baggage is horrendous and you cannot fly with just a handbag for a weeks holiday.

Tap was such a great Airline. Loved it a few decades ago. However, I Will never fly it again, under any circumstances. Ridiculous high fares, awful food, terrible uncomfortable seats, and awful service. Then when I canceled the return flight in disgust and claimed the refund on my full-fare ticket as I was entitled to, they initially issued me a coupon instead! No mention of this when I claimed the refund. Then, with all the stress of now dealing with this, I was told that this is "policy", and that all refund requests are initially automatically issued a coupon. I think this is very unethical. I eventually got my refund, but lesson learned. Never again.

The cost a lot more than that. Just check their FB-pages on Reviews. The refuse to pay their debts to customers, refunds, lost bagage. The refuse to answer complaints in the Red Book, phone calls, Messenger. A lot of time that customer have to spend trying to get money back. It is a shame that this company still is working under the wings of the government.
